Professor Jee-Hwan Ryu Appointed Editor-in-Chief of Prestigious IEEE Transactions on Haptics

Professor Jee-Hwan Ryu has been named the new Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of IEEE Transactions on Haptics (ToH), a leading international journal in its field. The announcement, made on the 22nd, confirms that his term will commence in January 2025. This distinguished appointment marks a significant milestone as Professor Ryu is the first researcher from South Korea to hold this position for the journal.

This appointment is a rare honor globally and is only the second time a researcher from South Korea has been selected as an EiC for any journal published by the esteemed IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.

Professor Ryu’s selection is a testament to his established leadership and expertise in the field of haptics. He has an impressive track record of international academic service, including serving as the General Chair for the 2018 AsiaHaptics conference and as Editor-in-Chief for the World Haptics Conference. These roles have solidified his reputation as a leading international expert, culminating in his new leadership position at IEEE ToH.

Expressing his vision for the journal, Professor Ryu stated, “I am committed to fostering the global growth of the haptics field through the advancement of this journal. My goal is to contribute to the development of technologies that can be integrated with robotics to practically benefit humanity.”

IEEE Transactions on Haptics is the premier scholarly publication dedicated to the science, technology, and application of information acquisition and object manipulation through touch. The journal’s scope is extensive, covering the latest research in areas such as human haptic perception and motor control, haptic device design and rendering, human-machine interaction, and the application of haptics in education, rehabilitation, medicine, and design. It encompasses the study of tactile and kinesthetic interaction in real, virtual, remote, and networked environments.
