2. Motivation

Telemedicine addresses healthcare access issues caused by regional gaps and workforce imbalance by enabling remote diagnosis and consultation. To match in-person care quality, advanced robotic systems are needed to overcome current limitations, precisely measure biosignals, and enhance interaction realism.

4. Results

Bilateral Teleoperation and Haptic Interface Technology

In this project, our lab is leading the development of the core robotic control technologies that ensure the safety and realism of the remote medical examination. Our goal is to provide a system where the physician not only controls the robot but also feels a tangible connection with the patient, creating a true sense of telepresence.

Bilateral Teleoperation for Safe Physical Interaction

  • We are developing control technologies to ensure the stability of the patient-robot system, even in the presence of network time delays and packet loss.

  • This allows for the faithful, bi-directional transmission of force and tactile sensations during remote palpation, significantly enhancing diagnostic accuracy.

Intuitive Teleoperation Interface

  • We are designing and developing user-friendly hardware and software interfaces that allow physicians to operate the remote robot intuitively with minimal training.

  • Specifically, “virtual guidance” technology based on vision data will be developed to improve the convenience and precision of the examination.

Multimodal Remote Feedback Technology

  • Our research focuses on synchronizing multimodal sensory feedback—haptic, visual, and auditory—in real-time to the operator.

  • This will create a highly immersive and realistic experience, making the physician feel as if they are in the same room as the patient.
