2. Motivation

Previous hyperloop research has centered on core hardware technologies. However, for practical deployment, a critical gap exists in defining how the system will operate as a coherent public transportation network. This planning-oriented study is motivated by the need to shift focus from individual technologies to a holistic operational framework. By addressing system-level challenges and real-world deployment scenarios, we aim to bridge the gap between technological development and operational feasibility, thereby accelerating the realization of hyperloop as a viable new mode of public transport.


3. Objectives

The primary goal of this project is to establish a strategic plan and feasibility study for developing core technologies of a non-stop Hypertube train system.

  1. Technology Definition: To define the scope and specifications of essential technologies, such as vehicle propulsion/control, separation/coupling hardware, and in-tube communication.
  2. Roadmap Establishment: To create a comprehensive Technology Roadmap (TRM) and budget plan for the future R&D project (targeted for 2027–2031.
  3. Feasibility Analysis: To analyze the policy, technical, and economic feasibility of the proposed non-stop system.

4. Results

The outcomes of this planning project are the strategic frameworks and documents required to launch the main R&D project:

  1. Core Technology Strategy: Identified 3 core technologies (Propulsion & Control, Separation/Coupling Hardware, In-Tube Communication) and 8 specific constituent technologies for development.
  2. R&D Strategy & Roadmap: Established a detailed 5-year R&D roadmap, including performance goals (e.g., HILS platform, shock absorbers, wireless communication systems) and a budget plan of approximately 66.8 billion KRW.
  3. Request for Proposal (RFP): Produced the final RFP and strategic planning report to facilitate the official launch of the national R&D project.
