2. Motivation

Accurate detection of parking lots requires high-resolution sensing and robust vehicle motion estimation. Conventional radar and distance sensors face limitations in resolution and robustness in diverse parking environments. To address this, the project explored UWB technology integrated with odometry to enable precise and reliable parking lot detection.

3. Objectives

The project aimed to develop a UWB antenna and back-end MCU, optimize distance measurement and mapping algorithms, and enhance IMU-based odometry estimation. Additional objectives included improving distance resolution, classifying obstacles using statistical methods, and validating parking detection algorithms in vertical and horizontal parking scenarios.

4. Results

The project successfully improved minimum distance resolution from 57 mm to 6 mm through dedicated RF filtering and advanced signal-processing techniques. Mapping accuracy was enhanced via odometry-based motion estimation, and reliable obstacle classification was achieved using KL-Divergence and T-test algorithms. Experimental validation across diverse parking environments demonstrated robust high-resolution obstacle mapping, confirming the feasibility of UWB-enabled parking lot detection systems.
